Elementary Observation

Well, today I went to a 1st grade class room (for my El Ed class) and observed how the teacher taught her kids. They were completely adorable and I loved every minute of it. When I first arrived there each one wanted to know who I was and tell me who they were so I was able to learn names easily. There is a big cage in the classroom that once occupied a rat who has since passed on to that big cheese in the sky. It now houses stuffed dinosaurs because they were bad as they put it. I was able to read with the kids (whom the teachers refers to as friends) and I was amazed at how much they already know. They were reading along with me and new what most of the words meant. They left for a quick walk outside while I popped some popcorn for them. In only 2 and a half hours I was able to remember most of their names and oh gosh they are all so cute. They are also learning hours and half hours right now which most of them had down. I think that little kids are the cutest. Well, me being a Special Education major I picked out pretty fast which students were not holding their attention as much. One kid wasn't receiving ANY attention from one of the volunteering mothers as she read to them and you could tell that he was pulling for anything he could get. He even fainted at one point so that someone would notice him. The mom just left him there and kept going until another kid did the same and she quickly pointed this out. When it came time to go I just wanted to give them all a hug and say bye-bye real loud but they were all studying and that would have been inappropriate. I can't wait to go back on Wednesday. And to think I was nervous for a bunch of 6 year olds.

I am so glad that you enjoyed yourself! I'm sure that all of the kids love you like crazy already! (If they don't, then they must not be as smart as they sound). Good luck on Wednesday, buddy!

I can understand your attachment. I've only had my students for 6 months, but i can't imagine loving someone more than i love them!
